The company noted that Google has updated some reports within Google Search Console to track additional desktop features for the Page Experience report. This means that you may see an increase in desktop impressions in the Page Experience report and Performance reports when filtering by “Good Page Experience”.

Advertising. The original ad was posted yesterday and it was very confusing, but this morning Google clarified the ad to read:

Search Console now records impressions in the Page Experience report for additional desktop features, such as Top Stories. As a result, you may notice an increase in desktop impressions in the Page Experience report, as well as in the Search Performance and News reports when filtering by search appearance Good page experience.

What has changed. Google did not track some desktop features in the Page Experience report. Now that Google tracks and logs these impressions for additional desktop features for the Page Experience Report, you may see an increase in impressions starting on and after May 13th. This can also affect Google Search Console search performance reports and news when you specifically filter these reports using the “Good Page Experience” search theme.

What do you notice from the outside? If you notice a spike or increase in impressions starting on May 13th, you can navigate and filter by “Experience the Good Page” search appearance in your Search and News performance reports to see if this is likely from the new registration for additional desktop features.

Google has always logged these impressions in other reports, but not specifically when it comes to the desktop page experience.

Why do we care. This is a reporting change that you should be aware of in Google Search Console. Be sure to annotate your reports and note this change, and if you notice significant changes in your reporting on or shortly after May 13th, it could be attributed to this change.
