If you are an American or Canadian employer, it only takes five steps to post a post on Facebook. This involves filling out a short form about your open position on the Facebook computer browser and determining who should see the post. Posting a post on Facebook is free, though you may want to set a budget to boost your post placement to make it more visible.

Step 1: Start from your Facebook business page

To post, you need to sign up as an administrator on your company’s business page. Once you have signed in, go to the menu on the left. The flag icon will take you to pages you manage.

One setting to explore on your Facebook Business page — if you are not already using it — is Messenger Tools. This enables job seekers to contact you.

To change the default setting, select Settings in the menu at the bottom of your business page, then select Messages. Then you can on Start to add messenger to your website.

Messenger allows applicants to start a conversation directly with your webpage.

You can also add Messenger via Messenger tools, which have additional options that can help you promote your business.

One option is Conversation Starters, which acts as a virtual assistant, and allows you to post automated messages for common questions such as business hours, company location and contact information. It also reminds you to respond to unanswered messages. This will not only help you with job seekers but also clients.

Another option is to create saved answers. It also allows you to create answers to some common questions asked by applicants and perhaps customers as well. Some questions may include information about company addresses, job locations and working hours.

Step 2: Create a Facebook Post

Here are two ways to create your Facebook mail posts — both available from your Facebook Business page.

The first option is to scroll down the left-hand menu on your Facebook Business page until you reach Manage Jobs. Once you have selected Manage Jobs, it will give you an option to create jobs.

In any case, once you have completed the initial step, you will be directed to the Create Job section.

Step 3: Fill in the ‘Create Job’ form

You may already have a job description with useful information — such as job title and specific role details — for job seekers to determine if they are suitable for your job. You can use it to fill in all the fields in Facebook’s Create Job section.

Job placements are simple, with fill-in-the-blank fields for both required and optional fields – though we recommend filling in the optional to increase your chances of finding a suitable candidate.

  • Job title: Enter the job title, or select a default job title from the subtraction options.
  • Type of employment: It gives you the option to choose full-time, part-time, internship, volunteer or contract.
  • Responsibilities and requirements: This is where you will list the job duties and requirements for the job. Using bullet points can make it easier for job seekers to read.
  • Location: It has two fields. The first field lets you choose whether the job is remote, in an office, or temporarily remote due to COVID-19. If this job is remote but you have other positions that are on the premises, you will still have the option to post a physical location as a reference (i.e. a company headquarters). If the job is in the office or is hybrid, you should place the address where the applicant will work when they are in the office.
  • Salary range: This is a field where you can indicate a pay range or the estimated salary for the job. Although this field is optional within Facebook, you will have a better chance of attracting candidates if you include a rate or a range.
  • Advantages: This is where you can include the type of benefits for this post. Most common benefit offers include health insurance, paid time off (PTO) and 401 (k).
  • Schedule: It is also an optional field that you can use to let the employee know what hours they need to work. This is especially important if the expected hours are not common — such as an afternoon or night schedule.
  • Screening questions: If there is a set of questions that are prerequisites for your job (ie years of experience, licenses and certification), you will post it here.
  • Application settings: If you need a list of previous employment or a resume for job seekers, you will click on the link button icon.
  • Photo: A photo of your business or job helps candidates get a feel for the job and your work environment. If you are using employees in the photo, it is best practice to get their permission.

Step 4: Publish your mail placement for free

Before you post your work, you will have a chance to review and edit it.

Once you have checked your post and everything is to your liking, you can complete the process by clicking on Publish Job Mail.

Facebook requires that you comply with its community standards, which cover, among other things, bullying, harassment and privacy violations. Not only do you need to keep abreast of specific Facebook policies, but it is best practice to be aware of federal labor laws to comply with.

You will get a message on your Facebook account when someone applies to one of your posts. If you have allowed e-mail, you can also receive an e-mail from the candidate. Finally, you can go to the Task Menu or tab on your Facebook Business account and you will see all the posts you have posted and who applied for each one.

Close or edit work

Your mail will automatically close after 30 days if you do nothing (and did not give a boost), but you can close it manually by clicking on the suspension points (dot-dot-dot) to the right of the post. It opens a menu that offers additional options, such as Close Job.

You can also use the same path to edit Job. It makes sense when you still want applicants to apply, but you have to make a big change to the placement. These items can include location, salary or hours.

Step 5 (Optional): Improve your job placement

Job postings are free on Facebook, but there are benefits to paying for job ads (which Facebook refers to as Boost) as it increases your posting reach.

When you promote a job, you provide a budget. Facebook uses your budget for impressions and clicks, similar to any other type of Facebook advertising. By boosting the work, you can also reach your target audience by filtering by job title, training and more. As a result, your work in the Facebook news feed is for users who meet your criteria.

You can choose to boost your mailing list when you initially post your mail by keeping the box marked. This step is shown after you have completed all the required and optional information on your mail.

After clicking Boost, open another table with detailed information. The target and special ad category are already defined for you. The only sections you need to complete are:

  • Heard: You can select the location you want to focus on with a mile near radius.
  • Time: Select the number of days for which you want the campaign to be active. Facebook has a 30-day mail placement limit for its free mail placements, but you can choose to have paid ads for more or fewer days, depending on your company’s plans.
  • Budget: Once you have decided how many days you want the work reinforcement to be active, you can add how much you want to spend on it daily. Based on budget and duration, Facebook will give you an estimated number of people who will reach your post.
  • Payment Information: If everything looks as expected, you can add your payment information, which includes payment method, your location and your currency.

Facebook is asking you for job reinforcement based on a per-click model. This means you pay every time someone clicks on your mail placement that has given Facebook a boost. You do not have to pay for individuals who have seen your mail because they are already linked to your business page.
