Google released another new help document for its Search Developer Docs today – called Education Questions and Answers. This technical help document explains how to add Quiz Structured data for flashcard pages to appear in the educational Q&A circle in Google search results, Google Assistant, and Google Lens results.

Supported page types. Google said that these two page types currently support this type of structured data:

  • Flashcards page: A page with flashcards that usually contains a question on one side and an answer on the other. To mark up flashcard pages, keep reading this guide to learn how to add a Q&A tutorial.
  • One page for questions and answers: A page that contains only one question and is followed by answers provided by the user. To mark up single pages for questions and answers, add QAPage coding instead.

technical requirements. Google has listed the technical requirements for structured data for educational questions and answers:

  • Put your structured data into the most detailed breakdown pages. Don’t add structured data to pages without questions.
  • All questions must use the Flashcard value of the eduQuestionType property. Pages containing other types of questions are not eligible for the Educational Question and Answer Library. For pages with other types of questions, consider using practice problems.
  • Make sure your host mount settings allow frequent crawls.
  • Questions on your site should be immediately visible to users on the page, which means that the questions are not kept in a data file or just a PDF.
  • If your page has only one question followed by many answers submitted by the user, use QAPage markup instead.

only English. Apparently this is now only available for English language queries, Google said the educational Q&A platform is available in English when searching for education-related topics on desktop and mobile.

Withdraw. Google can opt out of appearing in this search feature using this form.

more. There are loads of details including structured technical data samples, how to test and monitor results, and even this screenshot.

Why do we care. Anything you can do to differentiate how your content is displayed in Google search may improve your visibility in Google search and therefore the click rate from Google to your site. Of course, you should test it and see if the results are worth the effort and clicks lead to more conversions.
