For example, if you are selling a new product, you may have to deliver your product yourself because you can not afford to pay a shipping company to do it for you. In this case, you will definitely need to buy at least one company car to make it happen.

You can also hire an employee to do the management, but financial constraints can make it difficult. You will probably turn to anyone in your team who is willing to deliver the goods. But what if they are not properly controlled and you learn that they are unlicensed when they climb into a fender bender?

Fortunately, car insurance for unlicensed drivers is a real thing, and it is your duty as a boss to buy car insurance for all vehicles that will be in use during business hours for company-related tasks.

Do you have to hire unlicensed drivers?

Monitoring employees and asking them personal questions may seem like a step too far in the hiring process. Privacy is a big issue for people, especially when they are going to join a smaller company or start expecting them to act differently from the big conglomerates.

It does not ask them for their sexual orientation, but management is still a personal choice that should not be judged by the people you work with.

The other side of the coin is that management can be a necessity in your business activities, and if so, you should definitely only consider candidates who have a license.

If the interviewer is a fantastic candidate and their only downside is that they do not have a license, you can prohibit them from driving during their work. But if they have to take an occasional ride, how can you protect your brand from a possible ticket while they’re in a company car?

It does not seem to knock at first glance if you take this into account, but even unlicensed drivers should buy car insurance if they plan to drive. Yes, that sounds contradictory. What do you protect if you do not have to do an activity at all?

Many, actually. If you end up in a car accident without a license, you will get a ticket and be heavily fined for driving illegally. You could also be in financial ruin if you add the fees for repairing an uninsured car and paying the ticket for driving without insurance, another illegal act.

Having car insurance will protect you from at least one of these problems. If the person is driving a company car when they collide, you do not have to pay out of pocket for the expenses that will be incurred after the wreck. Always insure company cars, regardless of the license status of the driver behind the wheel.

Would you get in trouble if your worker did not have a driver’s license?

You will not be liable for your worker’s license status, because obtaining a driver’s license is a choice each individual makes on his or her own. However, your reputation may be harmed if a driver does not have a license and they are caught while driving a car or truck with logos of your company on the vehicle.

A good tip for any business is to verify that all your employees have the right credentials to do the job that the description asks of them. As discussed earlier, do not get too personal, but go far enough to do due diligence.

Insurance and licensing are not linked, so make sure any car you own that is going to be driven has delivery driver insurance, regardless of the legality of the driving license.

If an uninsured car is driven by an unlicensed driver, it is a double whammy for the company and the employee using the vehicle. As a boss, take control of your business practices by insuring the vehicle and leaving the licensing to your employee.
